Obituary for Sherry Lea Brannon Rice

Sherry Lea Brannon Rice, age 68, of Devola , OH, passed away on Tuesday,
September 11, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family. Sherry was born
in Weston, West Virginia, on June 19, 1944, to the late Marvin Austin Brannon
and Wanda Lucille Alfred Brannon.

She is survived by her son Michael Rice, of Paineville, OH; her daughter Patricia
Rice, of Devola, OH; her son Jeffrey Rice, of Cranesville,, PA; her sister Betty
Frush, of Clarksburg, WV; and her seven grandchildren: Austin, Emma, Benjamin,
Joseph, Andrew, Samuel, and Thomas Rice.

Sherry graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Clarksburg, West Virginia,
and began a career in health care that spanned over 45 years. She also earned a
Bachelor's degree from St. Joseph College in Maine. Sherry devoted her life to
caring for the elderly, serving progressively as a registered nurse, a director of
nursing, a nursing home administrator, a regional director, and a coordinator of quality
assurance, accreditation, risk management, and staff education.

An avid traveler, she enjoyed learning new things and experiencing the many
simple pleasures of life. She also deeply appreciated God's creation, especially
flowers. A medical mission trip to Haiti afforded her a unique opportunity to see
God at work, serve many of the world's neediest people, and develop a fresh
perspective on life which carried her through her remaining years. She also
supported churches and charities, and initiated an edifying ministry of prayer
and encouragement for those suffering with cancer nationwide. Sherry's vibrant
and productive life impacted thousands of people with the love of Christ and the joy
of living.

Graveside services will be held at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Quiet Dell,
West Virginia on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 2:30 PM. Memorial donations
may be made to either The Strecker Cancer Center at 401 Matthew Street Marietta,
OH 45750 or Marietta Hospice at 450 Pike Street Suite 11 Marietta, OH 45750.
